What is a Visa Travelex/Travel Money Card?

Travelex Cards

The Visa Travel Money Card is an instantly available prepaid travel card that can be purchased at any of our four GTSB locations.  The card was designed to take the place of traditional Traveler's Checks.  It offers the convenience of a debit card with the security of Traveler's Checks.

The Visa Travel Money Card may be used for both domestic and international transactions at ATMs as well as at Point of Sale locations (i.e. merchant locations).  The Travel Money Card can be used at millions of merchants around the globe that accept Visa debit cards, including shops, restaurants, and hotels.  It also offers instant access to local currency worldwide from more than 950,000 ATMs in over 150 countries.

The Travel Money Cards are PIN protected and carry a signature panel on the reverse, giving you peace of mind that your funds are secure.  If your card is lost or stolen, you forget your PIN, or you require advise about card usage, you can call our 24-hour customer service center for immediate assistance.

How can I check my balance or view my transaction history?

There are several ways through which you can check your balance and get a full list of the transactions you have made. First, there is an automated balance service available by calling the number on the back of your card. Just follow the options given to you. There is no need to speak to an operator. You will be asked to confirm a number of security details that you provided at the time of purchasing your card.

Secondly, you may go on-line to Travelex's secure cardholder website, www.cashpassport.com.  Here you will be asked to create a user name and password.  After this is complete, you will have full access to your Travelex Card account and history information.

Lastly, some cash machines will also be able to tell you your balance at the time of withdrawing cash.

How do I reload my card?

To reload your card you have a number of options. If you have registered your bank account details online then you can reload online (Please note reloads can only be accepted from bank accounts in the same name as the primary cardholder). Alternatively, for a small fee, you can call VisaTravel Money or visit a branch of the organization you bought it from.

You will need to have some form of identification with you. You can reload your card up to three times a year.

Can I use my card to make online purchases?

Yes, you can use Visa TravelMoney over the Internet. Your expiration date is printed on the front of your card and if you are required to enter the start date, you should enter the date of purchase or activation.

Please note that if buying goods you will need to have them delivered to the same address you quoted when buying your card, otherwise the transaction may be declined.

Can I pay for part of my purchase on my card and part using another payment method?

Yes. When combining your pre-paid card with other forms of payment, you must notify the cashier before paying and confirm the amount that you wish to deduct from your pre-paid card. The cashier should process your pre-paid card first, then accept the other form of payment for the balance of the transaction amount.

What if I want to return a purchase?

Each merchant location has its own returns policy, and will handle the returns in the same manner as any other Visa transaction when purchased goods are returned. You may receive a credit to your card, a cash refund or a store credit. A credit to your card may take up to seven working days to clear.

What if a purchase is declined?

If a purchase is declined, the card’s available balance is probably less than the purchase amount. You may inform the merchant of the remaining balance on the card and use another form of payment to pay the difference, subject to the policy of the merchant. Please be aware that some merchants such as restaurants and mail order companies may require the card to have an available balance greater than the purchase amount before they will authorize the payment.

How do I withdraw my remaining cash if it is too small for a cash machine to issue?

Any funds remaining on your card can be used for future trips. If you do not wish to leave these funds on your card and the remainder is too small an amount to withdraw from an ATM, you can use it as part payment towards a purchase. Notify the cashier before paying and confirm the amount that you wish to deduct from your Visa TravelMoney card. The cashier should process your Visa TravelMoney card first, then accept the other form of payment for the balance of the transaction amount.

Alternatively you can cash out your card by taking it back to the location where you bought it and they will refund the balance less any applicable fees.

Can I get cashback with my Visa TravelMoney card?

You may be able to get cash back with a purchase from merchants displaying the Interlink® brand mark.

How do I change my PIN?

You can change your PIN by calling the number on the back of your card. An automated service will guide you through the process. It only takes a couple of minutes and you will not need to speak to an operator. Please note that you cannot change your PIN at a cash machine.

What do I do when my card expires?

If you return to a branch, you can transfer the balance on your expired card to a new Visa TravelMoney card free of charge.

What do I do if I have a disputed transaction?

If you have a query about a transaction call Card Services at the telephone number listed on the back of the card.
